Our Approach to AI
SignalNews uses AI tools to help our small newsrooms cover more of what matters in their communities. AI supports our journalists; it does not replace them. Every AI-assisted piece is reviewed by an editor before it is published.
Where We Use AI
We may use AI to help draft routine briefs from verified public information, summarize lengthy documents, suggest headlines, and surface local stories worth covering. A human editor reviews and is responsible for what we publish.
How We Label It
Content created with AI assistance carries an “AI-Assisted” label so readers always know how a story was produced.
Human Oversight
Editors verify facts, check sourcing, and make the final call on every story. AI output is treated as a starting point, never as a finished, unreviewed product.
Accuracy and Reliability
We hold AI-assisted content to the same accuracy standards as all of our journalism. When we get something wrong, we correct it under our standard corrections policy.
What We Won’t Do
We do not publish AI-generated content without human review, and we do not use AI to fabricate quotes, sources, images, or events.
